Antonio Banderas

José Antonio Domínguez Banderas, or Antonio Banderas as he is more commonly called, is one of Spain’s most famous actors. Antonio Banderas has starred in countless films, TV shows, and has even produced his own music. One interesting fact about Antonio Banderas is that he appears any many things that you wouldn’t even notice in him – mainly because Antonio Banderas does voiceover work. Antonio Banderas is now a popular actor in the US, but originally he started his career in Spain. Antonio Banderas was for quite some time one of Spain’s top celebrities, until he finally came over to America.

Antonio Banderas’ Career in Spain

Antonio Banderas was born in August of 1960 in Spain. However, Banderas did not start his acting career until the age of 19. He started working with a somewhat well-known director, Pedro Almodóvar. He worked with Almódovar on several films, all of which were filmed in Spanish. Antonio Banderas never saw much success until he moved to the States and began his
Hollywood career.

Antonio Banderas in the States

Soon after his arrival in the United States, Banderas was contracted to do several films, the most famous of which are Philadelphia, Desperado, and the Mask of Zorro (see the Antonio Banderas Filmography for more). Antonio Banderas changed a lot in his transition to American cinema, but he still maintained much of his Spanish culture, which came out in most of his movies. Banderas is known for his thick accent and fiercely good looks, and is quite popular among females. However, unlike many actors and actresses, Antonio Banderas did not rely on his looks alone to land him roles. In fact, he relied more on his acting skills and, strangely enough, his voice – which leads me to my next point…

Antonio Banderas in Animated Films

Unlike most Hollywood actors, Antonio Banderas landed several roles because of his voice alone. His thick rich accent makes him perfect for voice-over work. His most famous voice over work would most likely be from the Shrek series. Banderas starred as the adorable yet dangerous “Puss in Boots”. His voice fit the role perfectly, and his character added much to the films.

Antonio Banderas is also well-known for his work on several television commercials. Nasonex, a nasal decongestant company, hired Banderas to do the voice work for their commercials. He played the part of an animated bee, and again – the voice fit perfectly. While commercials are not generally thought of as “career boosters”, the Nasonex commercials actually helped popularize Banderas. Antonio Banderas has one of those voices that is simply unmistakable. The minute you hear his voice, you KNOW it is him – which is more than can be said for the majority of actors out there.

Does Antonio Banderas have the skills to match his fame?

Antonio Banderas is a great actor, and has the record to prove it. He played a supporting role in the Oscar award-winning film Philadelphia, and he himself has won several awards. What do you think of Antonio Banderas? Do you think he is worthy of his current level of fame?

Fernando Torres, a famous Spanish soccer player, is one of Liverpool’s most talented players. Many people call Fernando Torres by his nickname “El Nino”, or “The Kid”. Fernando Torres plays for both the private club of Liverpool, as well as the Spanish national team. Fernando Torres plays as a striker. Starting at the age of 5, Fernando Torres gradually worked his way up through the ranks. Fernando Torres is a much respected member of the soccer community, and for very good reason. Fernando Torres is very well known for his performance in the Euro 2008 Final. Fernando Torres scored the one and only goal in that game, leading his team to victory. There had always been a substantial level of respect for Fernando Torres around the community, but his goal in that game quashed any and all doubts about his skill.

Fernando Torres’ Road to Stardom

Fernando Torres

As mentioned, Torres started out small. Like millions of other children in Spain and other European countries, Fernando Torres wanted nothing more than to be a famous soccer player. He committed himself to the game, playing whenever he could. He soon joined the Atlético Madrid, and in 1998, at the age of 14, lead them to victory in the Nike Cup. Soon after, Fernando Torres was named the best European player in his age group (u-15). This was an important event as it marked the beginning of a long reign for Torres.

Liverpool and Spanish National Team Sign Fernando Torres

As Torres gained fame and prestige, several teams began to take interest in him. In 2006, Fernando Torres was invited to play in the World Cup with the Spanish National Team. Torres, of course, accepted. After his performance in the Cup, popular club Liverpool began to notice this up-and-coming star. There was a lot of negotiations between Atlético president Enrique Cerezo and Rafael Benítez, owner of Liverpool. Eventually, a deal was made, and an amazing £20 million was shelled out by Liverpool, just to transfer Fernando Torres.

Fernando Torres in the Euro 2008 Final

Torres was a star player in the UEFA Euro 2008. Playing for the Spanish National Team, Torres performed excellently throughout the tournament. But he really shined in the final game, in which he scored the one and only goal. The final, held on the 29th of June, 2008, was held at the Ernst Happel Stadion in Vienna, Austria, was, needless to say, quite an exciting game.

It is not uncommon for professional soccer games to go into overtime with 0-0 scores, and this game was expected to be the same. As the game wore on, Germany, Spain’s competitor, had but 4 shots, while Spain had 13. Obviously only one of those 13 shots scored, and that shot was made by Fernando Torres.

Where does Fernando Torres belong on the list of Famous Spanish People?

In my personal opinion, Fernando Torres is one of the best players in Soccer history, and he deserves the fame he has rightfully earned. It seems like every child in Europe wants to be a soccer star, but unlike Fernando Torres, they lack the persistence and skill needed to become one. What do you think about Fernando Torres? Do you think he deserves a spot in the Soccer Hall of Fame?

Some of Picasso’s most famous paintings in this time were ‘La Vie’, ‘The Blindman’s Meal’, ‘Celestina’ and an etching called ‘Frugal Repast’. All of these paintings reflect his somber attitude, which was in turn reflected by the tragic death of his close friend, Casagemas.

The paintings that Pablo Picasso is most celebrated for is his analytic cube-style paintings. Picasso and Georges Braque developed this style of painting and their paintings were characterized by the use of monochrome brown colors. Picasso took objects apart and analyzed them in his paintings. This period was known as Picasso’s Analytic Cubism Period. However, his paintings were also inspired by his interest in African artifacts and featured the women he was involved with. Picasso’s new experiments inspired a number of painters to explore the possibility of cubism throughout the twentieth women. The cubist movement came to evolve into contemporary art, a style that is commonly known and used by artists around the world.

Pablo Picasso’s Famous Sculptures

Picasso was also renowned for his sculptures, however, not nearly as much as he was for his paintings. In fact, Picasso was quite secretive about his sculptures. He did not release his sculptures to the public until the 1960s. His most famous sculpture is the ‘Chicago Picasso’, a fifty-foot tribute to the Daley Center that was created in a cubist, three-dimensional style. This sculpture spawned on Chicago’s fascination with contemporary art.

Other notable sculptures made by Picasso were the ‘La Petite Chouette’, ‘Mandolin and Clarinet’, and the ‘Glass of Absinthe’.

Pablo Picasso’s Love Affairs

Outside of his career as artist, Picasso had a very vibrant love life. His love life always drew the attention of all his fans. In 1904, he fell in love with Fernande Olivier, who was his mistress for seven years. Picasso then left her for Marcelle Humbert, who he featured in a number of his Cubist paintings. In 1918, Picasso married Olga Khokholva, a Russian ballerina and they had one son. Her desire for wealth and stardom clashed with Picasso’s Bohemian lifestyle and the two eventually separated. Pablo then engaged in a number of sexual affairs with several other women and even had three more daughters with two separate women.
